The longest beach of India, Marina Beach, comprising of golden sand, good surf and a shimmering clean blue sea. This beach is counted among one of the longest beaches in Asia. Its 12-km long stretch was made beautiful by the wonderful facelift given by Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in the early 1880's.
Located on the eastern side of Chennai, adjoining the Bay of Bengal, watching the sun set and rise from the beach is a fascinating experience. With its natural sandy beauty and spacious promenade and beautiful gardens, the Marina beach is a major attraction for tourists visiting Chennai.
Some of the most beautiful buildings in Chennai such as the University of Madras, Senate-House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, P.W.D office and Ice House are located on the beach drive. At the other end of the beach is the new lighthouse.
Mahabalipuram
The magical land of Mahabalipuram is probably one of the finest un-spoilt beaches in India on the coastline of Tamil Nadu. The port town of Mahabalipuram along with its beaches will sweep you off your feet. The beach of Mahabalipuram attracts thousands of tourists throughout the year though the best time to check out the beach at Mahabalipuram is from November to February.

Kanyakumari
Kanyakumari, once referred to as the "ALEXANDRIA OF THE EAST", has been a great centre for art, culture, civilization and pilgrimage for years. This is the only place in India where one can enjoy the unique experience of watching the sunset and moonrise simultaneously on a full moon evening.
Rameswaram
An island off the mainland surrounded by Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar connected by the longest ever constructed bridge on sea in India. It is a pilgrim centre. The serene beach and shallow water here are ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
Pulicat-Beach
It is saline shallow water spread formed by the confluence of Backwaters, Pulicat Lake and Buckingham Canal. The beach is situated on the northern end of Tamil Nadu. A Dutch cemetery of 17th century is located here. A catamaran ride on the shallow water spread and a visit to Bird Sanctuary are two most leisure activities to be undertaken here.
Covelong-Beach
40 Kms away from the hustle and bustle of Chennai, Covelong is a salubrious village. But it is brisk with fishing activities. The sea and the surf here are gentle. Snuggle in for a cosy sunbath.
Tiruchendur-Beach
One of the six abodes of Lord Muruga, Tiruchendur is a very popular pilgrim centre. The temple is situated right on the beach adding glory to the beach.
