The pride of Kodaikanal is the 'Kurinji-flower', which blossoms once in 12 years. Cradled in the southern crest of the upper Palani Hills, in the Western Ghats, Kodaikanal is located 2133 m above sea level. The main attraction here is the star shaped lake. The popular summer season brings you the various exhibitions and activities including the Horticultural Show and the Regatta. It also has a fine golf course. .

Kodai Lake
One of the main attractions for the tourists of Kodaikanal is the Kodai Lake, which is at a distance of 3km from the bus stand. This magnificent star-shaped lake glitters like a jewel amidst the Emerald Green wooded slopes. This 24-hectare lake is skirted by 5 Kms long. The lake is spread over 60 acres and surrounded by fine-tarred road of 5 km length. The average depth is 3.0m. The boat club provides boats for hire.
Bryant Park
This Park is situated on the eastern side of the lake. It is noted for flowers, hybrids and grafts. Cut flowers are exported from here. A glass house which shelters over fine varieties of flowers can be seen here. Flower show conducted every year
during May, as a part of Summer Festival is to be seen by one and all. The park was originally planned and formed by a forest officer of Madurai Mr. H.D. Bryant in 1908 and named after him. The beautifully maintained park extends over an area of 20.5 acres. From its olden days there is an artificial pool.
Coaker's Walk
This hill-edge path way was identified by Er.Coaker in 1872. About a Kilometer from the lake, Coakers Walk runs along a steep slope on the southern side of Kodai. It offers some of the best views of the Plains.

Bear Shola Falls
About 1.6 Kms from the lake, Bear Shola Falls can be reached through a picturesque rugged hill path. This is an ideal picnic spot, where once bears came to drink water. Hence the name of the falls became Bear Shola falls. The approach is rugged hill path. The falls are at the best in rainy season. |
Silver Cascade
This is Located on the Ghat road leading to Madurai and is about 8Kms from Kodaikanal. The overflow of Kodai Lake comes down here as 180 feet high falls.If the temperature of water suits, tourists can take bath

Pillar Rock
Three Boulders stand shoulder to shoulder vertically measuring to a height of about 122 metres (400 feet), providing a beautiful view. It is 7.4 Kms from the lake. It has a mini garden with lovely flowers. In the shadows of the pillars are shady woods that invite picnickers. The chamber between the two pillars is called Devil's kitchen
Kurinji-Andavar-Temple
The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Murugan and is about 3.2-km from the lake. In Tamil literature "Kurinji" means "Hilly Region" and "Andavar" means God. From this temple, one can get a view of the northern plains and Palani Hills. | |
